In February of 2007, after living in Seattle for less than a year, I attended a Black Student Union event at a local university. I had no idea that that night would change my life, because I couldn't forget what I saw. There were at least one hundred people in a large dimly lit room. However, there was one light shining down in the corner, and under it was an angel.
Later that night I saw a picture of this angel again, while scrolling through the camera of a person I just met. It turns out this was her sister! For months I attempted to get a date, and was finally able to take her to a concert at the Triple Door. Although I thought the night went great, I was battling flu-like symptoms.
After a few weeks of unreturned phone calls and me almost giving up, she finally agreed to go on a second date. Before going on the second date, I found out that we had something in common - flu like symptoms! After apologizing profusely for presumably getting her sick, we found even more in common - our love for God, family, and community.
My sister kept telling me about this guy... after months I agreed to go on a date with him. We went to the Triple Door and took in an Eric Roberson concert. The show was great, but I was not feeling any chemistry or connection between the two of us. Later, I found out he was sick as a dog, and trying to make it through the night because he didn't want to cancel.
Since we didn't hit it off, I was reluctant to go on a second date, but decided to give it another chance. We saw the movie '300' and went out for drinks later. Needless to say, we had a great time and days later I remember telling my friends, "I think I really like this guy". The rest is history and one of the biggest blessings I've been given. Our journey together has been amazing, I thank God everyday for all of the twists and turns that brought us together.
Early on, we decided we want God to guide the course of our relationship. We often use the analogy of God driving the car and us as passengers in the back seat. Since we began dating in 2007, we've let God lead and have been amazed to find where we've been taken. We've had the blessing of growing together, traveling the world together, and learning from each other.
Thank YOU all very much! We wouldn't be here if it were not for the love and support of our family, friends, and community. We are incredibly blessed and grateful! We love you!!
